Env. Management Systems and ISO 14001
Overview
An environmental management system (EMS) is a powerful tool to help businesses, governments and universities successfully meet today's financial and environmental challenges. EMSs help businesses chart a clear course to competitive advantage with strategies that improve their financial, environmental and social bottom lines. Governments and universities reap benefits of EMSs through improved control, reduced operating costs and strenghtened environmental performance.

Example Projects
EMS Implementation Training
US Department of Veterans Affairs
EI developed and presented a federal facility workshop on EMS design and implementation for the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in California. EI provided three two-day trainings on EMS implementation to VA staff who were implementing EMSs to meet EO 13148 mandates. For these trainings, EI developed interactive mechanisms of instruction to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and presented real word experiences as examples to make the training more practical and help clarify difficult concepts or areas of confusion. The courses included a slide show explaining the ins and outs of EMS planning and implementation, a question and answer exchange between the trainer and attendees, and group activities for the attendees to put into practice material presented in the slide show. The course and customized training materials developed for the course drew upon the instructor's considerable insight and real-life experience into the EMS implementation process at federal facilities.
